i purchased this item and was disappointed when i mounted it on my xd9 compact and sub-compact pistol. the light it self is fine but there is not enough rail space for a proper alignment where the groove of the light sets in. it ultimatly makes a slight angle not a straight line of sight for the laser or the light. would recommend only on 6in or large hand guns with rails!
I purchased this over 6 months ago. It has performed very well on my Mossberg 500 Road Blocker shotgun and has handled the recoil with ease. The unit is large and requires a fair amount of room for mounting. This is why i would not recommend it for a pistol, but on a picatinny rail on a rifle it is perfect. My only real complaint is how quickly it chew through batteries. The batteries are over $2 each, and it takes 2 at a time. I took it to the range, sighted the gun in, and fired off 50 rounds and the batteries were almost dead. It also drains them while sitting idle, even when the laser/light is turned off-off (not just in standby mode).The laser itself is bright red and stands out well. The focusing agent of the laser is on par or better than most for a laser sight in this price range. This is NOT a laser to use if you want dead-eye precision. For a shotgun, its perfect. The laser spreads to about 6" at 50 feet, making it ill suited to precision work. For a general blast radius, it is wonderful for a shotgun.As to the flashlight part of the unit, it is amazingly bright when the batteries are new. Being spotlighted with it in a dark or near-dark house will blind the subject so illuminated for several minutes, making them far less of a threat. Pulsing the light increases this effect significantly. As the batteries reach mid-point in their life, the light also likewise noticeably dims. However, it is still more than bright enough to blind someone, even in full daylight. This is not a child's toy. It could conceivable permanently blind someone if left in their eyes for an extended duration.However, the control cable is short, so be prepared to mount the unit close to the weapon's grip or the stock grip. You won't have much room to work with.Overall, i have found it very useful and functional for its price. It is a good value and reliable.
