Broan 100HL Directionally-Adjustable Bath Fan with Heater and Incandescent Light Reviews
Great fan - took some time to install for a bath remodel. Had to purchase a switch with 3 toggles on in to operate each feature. Can't wait to really try the heating function when it is 20 below outside! Amazon shipped in a timely manner.
Love this fan/heater/light. My husband was always cold in his bathroom. I got this for a present and he loves it. In fact he has to turn it off before he is done in the bathroom each morning. It runs very quitely and puts out the heat. We had an electrican install it so it was a present for him.
When mounted, it looks even better than the Broan picture! I upgraded our mother-in-law bath with this unit. The ceiling opening had to be enlarged but was easy to install. The directions do not mention removing the vent fan and heater unit from the "can" before mounting when hanging against a joist; an easy option when attic access isn't possible. It is quiet (2.0 sones) and the heater output is pleasant, too. Assuming it doesn't break down any time soon, I would rate this fan a "5" out of "5."
I purchased this fan to replace a bathroom fan I installed 7-8 years ago that didn't have a heater. My wife loves it; very effective at warming the whole bathroom. Heater's noise level is good but louder than I'd expected, exhaust fan noise is less and very acceptable, light output is good though I did remove a welded on bracket so there would be room for a compact florescent bulb. Installation was straight forward but a dedicated 20A circuit is required. Directional heater vent is a nice touch.
I shopped the big-box store for a bathroom fan and was pleased to see a sign "We will beat any price!" when I entered. I brought the 100HL to the counter but was told they can beat any price "Except Amazon". For a $50 savings I opted to wait 3 days for Amazon to ship.I wanted an energy-efficient light (like the 100HFL) but after reading the review by D. Abernethy about removing the bracket that prevents installing a compact fluorescent I figured I'd save $25, order the 100HL and remove the bracket also. Turns out I only needed to easily bend the bracket slightly to allow a CF bulb to fit. For fun I called customer service and asked if there was a reason they didn't want CF bulbs to be used. They told me it was only because it was not tested that way in the lab when it was UL certified and in the future they will only have one model that takes incandescent or CF bulbs. On to the review; The fan arrived in 3 days after I placed my order and is very well made. Installation was a snap thanks to another reviewer's note (MLG) about removing the fan motors from the "can". Both the heater and the fan motors can easily be removed with 2 screws each, making it much easier to measure, position, and install overhead. Wiring was clearly marked, the instructions were clear, fit and finish are excellent. My bathroom is about 100 square feet and the heater does a good job boosting the temp in just a couple minutes. I thought the fan would pull a little more air though as there's still a little steam on the mirrors after a shower. Nothing major though (and definitely better than showering with the door open and fully fogged mirrors like before). Both the bathroom fan and the heater fan are very quiet; about as loud as the sink water running.Great fan/heater/light combo for the price. If there was a night-light version I would have bought it but I can live with a 13W compact fluorescent burning for a couple hours at night. And for my one customer service call about the bulbs, it was answered by a quickly by a friendly, helpful, American-sounding gentlemen.
This product was as described in the literature. Runs good. Installation was a little tricky for you do it yourselfers. Requires a seperate 20 AMP service run.
