  • Hunter 27218 White Energy Efficient Low Profile Light Kit Reviews

    1. This light is great, except for the design. If you intend on using the pull chain to turn the light on and off, the way it's designed, it will wear the paint off the light fixture in short order, unless you're willing to lift the chain way up and pull it straight out. Other than that design flaw, the light works great, throws good light evenly. They should require the engineers who design these things to use them in real life before they sell them.

    2. Despite the sketchy instructions, the light kit was easy to install on a Hunter fan that I purchased locally. My guess is that people with little experience with wiring and light fixture installation may need some help from someone who is handy. When I installed the fan I did end up calling Hunter's help line with a wiring question. I was on hold for a long time, but when I did get through, the agent was helpful and knowledgeable. Don't forget that there is a pull-chain switch on the fan itself. I turned on the light at the wall switch, and for a few minutes could not figure out why it didn't work.

    3. I bought two of these light kits for fans in bedrooms. I wanted something that just blended into the ceiling as much as possible. The light is bright enough for the room, and the fans work great!

    4. This light kit does the job until the parts quit. Then you'll pay $30 or so to get a new ballast shipped to you and then spend the time to install and rewire it. I doubt that my ballast had more than 500 hours of use before it failed. No sympathy from Hunter, of course, since only the fan motor is covered by the lifetime warranty. I suggest you consider instead buying a kit that takes a regular bulb and installing either a small compact fluorescent or even better one of the new LED bulbs that have come down in price so much at Home Depot.

    5. The light kit was easy to install on a previously installed low profile Hunter ceiling fan. Just a matter of connecting three wires (white, black & green. The light isn't too bright nor dim; just right for my bedroom area.

    6. It's not very bright even in a small room. A normal 15w/60w cfl bulb seems to put out more light than this. It has a bad design when it comes to the switches. The lights pull chain scrapes the side which will eventually rub off the paint. It also puts more strain/wear on my fans pull chain because of the angle the light creates. It also sucks that it only comes in white. This light would best be used with a remote control compatible with cfl bulbs so you don't have to pull the chains. The only good thing about this light is the low profile design. It helps save headroom, but I don't feel this light is worth the price because of its dimness and design flaw.

    7. I hate having to clean the bugs out of the glass globes on fan lights -- these don't have holes in the top so keep the bugs out.

    8. We bought it 3 years ago. It works perfectly with our fan which is: Hunter 23866 Lowprofile III 42-Inch 4 White Plastic Blades Ceiling Fan, White at --- [...]

    9. Generally speaking, for the price, the light is a good add on for my Hunter fan. Unfortunately I can't rate it higher because it has an issue where it fails to start about 10-20% of the time. I get a quick flash of light then I have to turn it off and back on for it to stay on.

    10. Exellent low profile light fixture for Hunter ceiling mount Hunter paddle fan. lots of light.Should be offered in finishes other than white.
