As the previous review stated, the delivered product was a 90 degree configuration instead of a straight configuration. It did not make any difference to me, and actually, the 90 degree worked better on the back of our washing machine. The device looks to be well made. The short burst filling of our LG was causing serious watter hammer and the Sioux Chief 660-H did exactly what it was supposed to do. Now, I no longer worry about damage to fittings and or pipes and the silence is welcome. Super easy install, the hardest part was cleaning up dust behind the washing machine. I don't know why I waited so long to purchase and install an arrester.
I have an LG front-loading washing machine, and when it would add water, the plumbing would bang throughout the house. So, after seeing a recent Ask this Old House episode where Richard installed a water hammer arrester in someone's house to solve a similar problem, I ordered a pair of these. I put them on the back of the washer where the hoses connect to the machine, and now all the banging is completely gone! I couldn't have asked for a simpler solution that works great.
Yes, we too have an LG front-loading washer - it seems like they must shut off water flow more abruptly than some other makers' washers. Anyhow, like other have said, these cured the harsh water hammer pipe banging (bought one for each of hot and cold).Note that I first bought a pair of very similar water hammer arrestors made by a different manufacturer from my local big box home improvement store. However, those did not work, whether due to different design or defect (maybe the pistons that separate air and water were stuck). I returned those for a refund.Incidentally, the ones that didn't work were made in Taiwan, while the Sioux Chief product is made in the U.S. So you can feel good about buying American if that is important to you. (But I am delighted by my Korean-made washer.)Finally, as others have said, this is a right-angle fixture, not in-line.
I got this water hammer arrestor after finding out that my water timer from Orbit, creates water hammers. A water hammer is basically created by a instant change in water pressure, whenever water is turned off too abruptly. This can cause major damage to your household piping, and thus, would cost a lot of money in repairs.A water hammer arrestor, is basically a piston and spring, inside a cylinder. Also inside the cylinder is an air pocket. Whenever an air hammer is formed, it will push the piston upwards, and this action absorbs the water hammer. These particular ones are usually used on washing machines, but did you know that a washing machine connection is just a 3/4" garden hose style? I bet you didn't!If you are going to use a diaphragm type water timer on your garden spigot, I highly recommend that you pickup one of these water hammer arrestors. And since washing machines also create water hammers, these arrestors will save your plumbing from serious damage! I have no problem with mine and I give them a 5 out of 5!
My wife and I bought a new front loader Kenmore Elite washer machine the other week. It produced a BAD water hammer...heard all over the house...kept us up at night as well. So I went to the home goods store, bought one of 'their' water surge arrestors and soldered it our main water line. WASTE OF TIME!! I purchased this item (one for hot & one for cold) and installed it according to the box. Let me say, this works WONDERS! No more water hammer at all! Easy install. Can be installed vertical or horizontal or any way in between. I wasted my time and money with the 'box store' item. Should have went here FIRST! TIP**--I installed the arrestors ON my washer machine (like the manufacturer suggests), in order to protect the fragile hot/cold supply lines from the potential damage, as the supply lines are typically the 1st to go bad. WELL DONE Sioux Chief!!
Install took less than 5 minutes to install 2 shock Absorbers on my LG front load washer.It solved the "water hammer" banging sound instantly. These parts should come STANDARD on LG front load washers as it seems everyone has trouble with the water hammer sounds.Now I don't have to worry about future plumbing problems front rattling pipes.
It is a coincidence that I also have LG front load but I guess that rapid closure of water inlet valve is a common feature of all front load machines. My stainless steel hoses used to bang on dryer back and create annoying sound. After reading reviews below, I could not wait to order from Aamzon and bought it from local Home Depot. Lazy I am, first installed at the tap (as shown in picture) and hammer effect was reduced by 80% but hoses would still (slightly) bang the dryer as some hammer would ripple towards the tap. I was impressed with the noise reduction and decided to connect this directly to the washing machine (by the way, this is the recommended way by the manufacturer). It worked! No more annoying noise - completely cured the problem.Before you begin, keep following handy : some cleaning rags/wipes, 8" pipe wrench, philips screw driver, kitchen sheer, spirit level and leveling wrench. Take this as an opportunity to level the washing machine from all sides and also to check the dryer vent connection (my vent installation by BestBuy wasn't perfect). Washing machine inlet pipe has PVC threads - exercise extra care while tightening.Total time spent - 1 hr (if your dryer vent is perfectly sealed or your washer/dryer has clean back, you should be able to finishe off in 10 minutes). As an added bonus, washing machine vibrations are reduced to minimum and laudry room does not get warm.

Did a random search for LG Washer noise and found this product.After suffering for over a year with banging pipes and minute water leakage, peace reigns again.One of the reviewers said these should be standard on all machines. Hear Hear. My sisters new Maytag doesnot do this and I was starting to think I was nuts. Super easy to install, took maybe 20 minutes and theresult is NO NOISE, no banging, just the happy melody when the machine is done working. Ahhhh....
I recently bought a high-efficiency washer/dryer pair (Kenmore, but that's not pertinent to this review). I was immediately troubled with banging pipes after hooking up the HFE washer. HFE washers don't fill and stop like traditional washers do. They run the water, stop, run, stop, run, stop, 20+ times per load of laundry, or more. My pipes rattled through the whole house, I couldn't stand it, the noise was incredibly irritating. I tried fastening down the pipes where they seemed to rattle, with only minimal reduction in the noise. The noise seemed to primarily come from the cold water line but after some searching I found this Sioux Chief 660-H mini-rester, and its inexpensive price, I bought two for both the cold and hot water lines. I wasn't too confident this would help, its small, its inexpensive, could it really work? Installation was easy - shut off water supply to the washer, unscrew hoses from washer, screw hose onto the mini-rester, screw mini-rester on the back of the washer, turn water supply back on. It was really that easy. I was doubtful... so I immediately ran a load of laundry... the noise is GONE. Not even a dull thump... nothing! Its amazing!! I'm so glad to have found this, you will love it!!!
I recently purchased a new LG front load washer (WM2450HRA).The washer is terrific, but the water pipes would bang when the water supply flow would stop. And, this happens quite frequently each cycle with efficient, front load washers.The banging of the pipes when water flow suddenly stops is called "water hammer." It is not only annoying, but over time can result in a significant plumbing disaster.Fitting the both hot and cold water supplies with these "mini resters" immediately solved the problem. Installation was very easy -- just tighten one end of the product to a supply faucet and the other to the correct washer hose. A wrench is all you need. A washer is supplied for the connection to the faucet, and your washer's existing hoses should already have one.Now there is absolutely no banging (and no stress to the pipes) during the laundry cycle. The problem is fixed!I just wish that LG incorporated this technology into the design of their washers. It seems like a common problem with older, narrow plumbing.
