Essentially this is just some rubber padding to go between the two units, and two brackets to secure them together. To check if this is compatible with your washer and dryer: the dryer needs two rectangular holes on the back at the bottom left and right, and the washer needs two sets of two open screw holes on the back at the top left and right.
After using the washer and dryer for 8 years, decided to stack for more room. Washer actually vibrates less. Wish I hadn't purchased the drawers in the beginning.
The biggest issue for me was whether I could get it to fit the Kenmore HE3 line, and it does. Not a lot of cross-reference out there, but it fits.It turns out that many different dryers potentially stack on different washing machines; the width of the unit footprint needs to be the same, and the depth needs to be close. I could have stacked an HE4 or HE5 on top of an HE3 washer, but I wanted the HE3 Steam.
I couldn't find the part specific for my models (maytag commercial he mgd500 over the matching 450 washer), so I bought this kit, hoping it would work.The screw holes for the washer were perfect. The lip that hooks onto the dryer was too wide for the dryer slots. We used a belt sander to reduce the width of the lip alone. Fits perfectly, now!It was really easy to do, otherwise. The stack seems super sturdy - I even had the boys build a rolling platform, so that I could clean behind the machines (the extra few inches also would help protect the machine, in the event of a small flood). So, on the platform & stacked, it seems even sturdier than the washer, alone, on a 15" pedestal (how we had it, before). There is much less vibration and noise now. And, I thought it was pretty quiet, before!Note for shorter people: Stacking makes the dryer quite high. I'm 5' 2", and I need a little step stool to be able to reach all the way inside, to get socks, dryer balls, and other small items from the back of the machine. I can reach shirts and whatnot in the middle or front of the drum, without a stool. But all that's ok with me, as I've got so much more space in my utility room and now I can install a sink in there - yay!I rely on Amazon to help me make informed buying decisions (and, sometimes find out about new things!). I have the old model Whirlpool Duet (not sport or anything else, just the Duet) and these work great. They were much smaller than they look in the pic, so I was skeptical that they would even hold. The dryer has not budged, and the stacked set helps with space in the wash room.
My plumber installed these on my Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer, so I don't know how easy it was, but they are very sturdy. I LOVE that they are now stacked - it saves so much room in my laundry area. I'm very pleased.
Not too hard to install. I only needed help for the one step where the dryer is lifted. And I have so much more space. Skip the door reversal kit. It's not worth it. The cosmetic parts you really want are not included anyway.
